Rally for Planned Parenthood re-opening in Colorado Springs after deadly shooting in 2015
A rally commenced on Saturday April 23, 2016 on Centennial Blvd. in Colorado Springs near the Planned Parent Hood for the reopening after the fatal shooting in November 2015.
The rally was done by supporters and non-supporters of Planned Parenthood.
The arrested shooter, Robert Dear, allegedly killed three people, a police officer, a male and a female the day after Thanksgiving in 2015. Nine others were injured.
Dear, said he was against abortion and accused Planned Parenthood of selling baby parts as a possible motive. Planned Parent Hood was cleared of those allegations.
One woman, pro choice, gave her thoughts on the Planned Parenthood killings, Irene, from Colorado Springs said, “she had mentioned to police that things seemed to be getting worse down there at Planned Parenthood going by some negative feedback from people on Facebook.” she said.
The building is more secure since the shootings, she also said.
Helen Cisneros of Colorado Springs said the male victim was her previous boss and good friend, Ke’arre Spencer. He was a war veteran from the Iraq war. Spencer was at Planned Parenthood with his girl friend for an ultra sound following the news of her pregnancy.” Spencer went outside and was one of the first to be shot,” Cisneros said. After being shot he went back into the building and warned others to take cover, then collapsed and died, she said.
“The irony of serving our country and coming back to the US and getting shot, He was proud of his military service and he was a leader. He will be missed.” Cisneros said.
The rally was calm for the most part but there were a few people that were writing things on the sidewalk with chalk.
No one was sure exactly when Planned Parenthood will re-open.
